Sugar gliders, when crabbing, sound like locusts rubbing their wings together. This sound can signify anxiety, feeling of unsafeness, and fright. Moreover, sugar gliders crab when they aim to appear big and intimidating to other animals.
A sugar glider ( Petaurus breviceps) is a small tree-dwelling gliding possum. They are omnivorous, though in the wild are primarily nectar and insect eaters. They are marsupials, meaning they carry their young in a pouch for foetal development. They are native to Australia, Tasmania, and certain isles of Indonesia.

If a young glider were to bite you, it usually does not hurt, although it can be startling as the bite is often accompanied by the crabbing sound. Crabbing, in and of itself, takes some getting used to. I still find it fascinating to observe a newbie’s first encounter with a sugar glider and first exposure to crabbing.
